Photo Essay

The Desert

The photo Essay project is simply a story that is tied together through related photos. The topics involved in this project should be around "Emirati culture, sub-culture and lifestyle. As for me, I thought a lot before choosing a topic and finally i made my choice by choosing the desert "elbar".  I took this opportunity because as everyone knows that UAE locals are used to go to the deserts during winter and i adore going to the deserts in this time of the year.

I really like going to the desert in winter because the weather goes perfect like unusual. however, i go to the desert at least two times a week with friends or family. the types of deserts i go to are sandy deserts and ones with stones and mountains. Actually i enjoy going both because each has its own pleasure.

In the pictures above is where me and my friends go to the desert. we call this a road trip because the desert is suppose to be far away from the city. In this day the weather where so gorgeous and windy, as appears that we where going a bit outside the window to feel the wind and express our happiness.

The pictures above is when me and my friends went to the sandy desert. We  walked and took a round around this place to discover it and enjoy chatting while walking in the sandy desert with our barefoot. you can see from the first and second pictures how the colors are bright and refreshing. however, our spot where fantastic due to the beautiful view of the camels in the opposite wadi.

Here comes the afternoon where we where starving. we asked Latifa and Amna to go and get us some take away for lunch. As you can see the food we had where traditional which consist of rice, chicken bryani and yogurt. The meal was perfect in such environment as you can see that no one is left eating except Muna and Maitha.

after finishing eating we had some snacks and deserts that we bought previously from the patrol station. We also prepared a games to play as you can see the board and uno in the bottom right. we had alot of fun playing in the desert and eating, although i lost twice in uno yet i still enjoying playing in such weather.

this is where i mentioned earlier about walking with our barefoot in the sand. these are my footprints and actually the sand where freezing so my foot went freezing either.

Here we come to the family side. As you can see from the pictures above the large amount of tents and people camping. I tend to camp with my family when we go to the desert because it is safer and we have our own privacy. however, the third picture is our land where we erect tents and stay there for days if we like but in our case we just camp till bight and return back home. You can imagine from the first two pictures how many people are surrounding us and how the environments surrounding are joyful.

These are my cousins and nieces out there playing on the sand. in the first picture they played with their sand toys but in the second picture it appears that want to play with the sand itself by climbing the sand and rolling back down all over again. I really enjoy playing this game either.

When we go to the desert with my family we never buy take away food and we rarely barbecue either. We always cook in the desert using this big bowl and the flame we make. the picture shows that we are cooking "machboos" this is also a traditional type of food which consist of rice and meat. The lovely thing about this is that we all get to cook and stair the spoon so it get a kind of entertaining.

My brother and I discovered this while spinning around the desert. I think this is a young camel who died here and his bones are what is left of it. It was kind of scary when you see a whole skeleton.

The picture above is the other kind of desert where you can see mountains and the sand are harsh and full of stones and not clear as the previous one. However, both deserts are fantastic. Depending on me I adore climbing mountains and discovering caves and wells but yet this is very dangerous. You can see from the photo what do I mean about harsh sand.

In the pictures above shows my family where we just arrived in the desert after we chose the perfect spot. we came along with 5 cars and carried a lot of luggage due to the many of us and the amount of time we are going to spend.

The three pictures above shows my beloved nieces. the first is Fatima 4 years old and in the third picture Maryam 8 months old. you can see that Fatima is eating popcorn from the bowl in front of her which we made it by using the flame. however, maryam seems to be happy although she understand nothing.

As you can see from the pictures above the kids where busy all the time playing with the kites the bought from a nearby grocery. The parents where helping their kids also in flying the kites. They faced a bit of difficulties at the beginning  in flying the kite due to the heavy wind but later they where able to fly the kites freely. I also went to try and fly  a kite and i did it and it was so entertaining but also scary because the wind where directing the kites toward some people and I was afraid to hit the.

finally, As you saw from my photos that I often go to the deserts and spend my time there either with friends or family. as you can see beside enjoying the wind and the view or sand itself we have a lot of activities to do in the desert to make us happy and enjoying not mentioning how the men drives in the desert it feels like you are in a roller coaster.
